In a hard-hitting defensive game, Bridgeport defeated the eighth-grade Shelton Vikings, 20-8.
After Bridgeport scored on its opening drive, the Vikings went on a 10-play drive to tie the score at 8.
The highlight of the drive was Matt Bean taking a swing pass from Matt Rice and banging his way 35 yards down the field.
After that, all-purpose back Robert Wood bulled his way in from 10 yards out for the score.
Bridgeport then scored with four minutes left in the half for a 14-8 halftime lead.
Bridgeport closed out the scoring with another touchdown run in the third quarter.
The Vikings’ offense was led by the running tandem of Wood (106 yards) and Conner Murphy (42 yards rushing).
On the defensive side of the ball, Jerry Sorensen was a monster with five tackles and a sack.
Helping out on defense were Wood, Timmy Peters, Eddie Radzion, Bruno Pulicki and Alex Allegra.
The Vikings finished the regular season at 3-5 and now await their playoff opponent.
The seventh-grade Vikings ended the regular season with a perfect 7-0 record following a 22-0 win over Aspetuck.
The Vikings wasted no time scoring their first touchdown, a two-play drive featuring two passes.
The first one was to David Yacowitz for 26 yards and the second one to Colin St. Pierre for 36 yards and the touchdown.
After a turnover on downs, the Vikings again used another two-play drive that covered 77 yards.
This time it was Paul Ferrigno, on second-and-13, going the distance for the 77-yard touchdown.
Colin Mengold punched it in from 1 yard out early in the second quarter to account for the final score.
The Vikings’ shutout defense was led by Jake Delima, Colin Mengold, Jack Carr, Jake Breton, Jake Falanga and Nick Pavone.
