The best of autumn: Brewskis, wings, and sunny skies at Shelton's Riverwalk

Shelton-RotaryBeerFest2Above, from left, the Dew Drop Inn’s Barbara Chernesky of Shelton, Kenna Carlucci of Derby and Kelly Kane of Naugatuck pour beers for guests at the Rotary Club’s first-ever Hoptoberfest craft beer festival and wing contest at Shelton’s Riverwalk on Saturday afternoon.

The event attracted more than 500 people to sample 50-plus beers as well as wings from seven restaurants. The Dew Drop Inn in Derby was the winner of the wing competition. Kenna and her husband, Jason Carlucci, own the Dew Drop Inn.

Marissa Labelle of Southington, far right, waits for Ben Hoeft from Half Full Brewery in Stamford to fill up her cup. Hoeft lives in Norwalk.

Net proceeds from the event will support the Derby-Shelton Rotary Club’s college scholarship program, elementary school literacy programs, and beautification efforts in downtown Shelton and Derby.

The Hoptoberfest was such a success that Rotary Club officials already are planning the second one for the fall of 2014. (Look for more photos from the event on this website in the coming days.)
