The seventh-grade AYF Shelton Vikings advanced to the Colonial League championship with a 22-0 over Ansonia.
The Viking defense gave up only 147 yards on the day.
Jake Falanga had six tackles, Colin Mengold had 10 tackles, Jake Delima added eight tackles, Jack Carr notched five tackles, and Jake Breton chipped in with three tackles and a sack.
The Vikings’ defense also forced three turnovers — with Brian Berrito notching an interception and Carr and Nick Andrade recovering Ansonia fumbles.
The Vikings started the game on offense and needed only two plays to score.
Paul Ferrigno went 57 yards for the first touchdown of the game. Ansonia’s first drive ended with a punt that left the Vikings 91 yards away.
The Viking offense used a seven-play drive and a 17-yard touchdown run by Berrito to open up a 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.
With the score 14-0 at the start of the fourth quarter, the Vikings marched 72 yards on 13 plays and Berrito scored on a 12-yard run.
That put the Vikings up 22-0. Paul Ferrigno rushed for 164 yards on 16 carries and Berrito added eight carries for 47 yards. The offensive line of Jake Ferrigno, Ray Wiener, Breton, Sam Chalk, Delima, Nick Bruno and Sean Rago paved the way for the Vikings.
The 8-0 Vikings will play in the Colonial championship at 3 p.m. at Shelton High on Sunday, Nov. 3.
