The work is taking place from the Bridge Street underpass to the end of the new Avalon apartment complex. Eventually, the work will continue to the end of Canal Street, where the entrance to the spillway and dam are located.
It’s part of ongoing efforts to redevelop the riverfront in that part of Shelton, a once heavily industrial area that now is home to more than 250 residential units — both condos and apartments.
City officials hope the infrastructure improvements will spur further private development.
