Downtown Shelton’s Canal Street getting new asphalt

Shelton-CanalStPaving1The paving of the northern part of Canal Street started late last week. In recent months, new sidewalks have been constructed, utility lines have been placed underground, and the road’s sub-surface has been rebuilt. (Photos by Brad Durrell)

The work is taking place from the Bridge Street underpass to the end of the new Avalon apartment complex. Eventually, the work will continue to the end of Canal Street, where the entrance to the spillway and dam are located.

City officials hope the infrastructure improvements will spur further private development.
