Nominations sought for Caring Heart Award

The Women and Heart Disease Committee is seeking nominations for the Caring Heart Awards, presented each year to an individual and a community organization in recognition of initiatives that support, promote and improve the general health and well-being of the Greater Lower Naugatuck Valley community.

Nominations should be mailed to Daun Barrett, c/o Valley Parish Nurse Program, 130 Division St., Derby, CT 06418. Nominations must be received by Nov. 15 to be eligible.

The awards will be announced in December and presented on Feb. 6, 2014, during the eighth annual Heart Disease Dinner and Awards Program, held in conjunction with National Heart Disease Awareness Month.

About the group

The Women and Heart Disease Committee is co-chaired by Barrett and Dee Klingamen of Oxford, and consists of health care professionals, heart patients and women from throughout the Valley communities.

The primary focus of the group is to increase heart disease awareness among women, empower them to love and save their hearts, and ensure they are provided the means to do so through education and rehabilitation. Membership is open to all interested persons.
