Former Talking Heads drummer Steve Scales, now a student majoring in human services at Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport, is the subject of a feature article in Community College Times, a national professional periodical for community colleges.
Scales, a Bridgeport resident who previously lived in New Haven, also has performed with the likes of the B-52s, Tom Tom Club, Tina Turner, Yoko Ono, and jazz great David Sanborn.
A Vietnam-era Marine Corps veteran, Scales said he sees a need for counseling today’s returning veterans and wants to help.
Scales was a self-taught musician, and reached the big time when be began playing with the Talking Heads in the early 1980s. In 2002, according to Wikipedia, he was invited by the Talking Heads’ four primary members to participate in a short set staged for the band’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
He also played minor roles in a few films, including “Something Wild” (1986) and “Philadelphia” (1993).
