See video: Three individuals rescued from overturned canoe in the Housatonic

Three canoeists were rescued on Friday night after their canoe overturned in the Housatonic River, near Indian Well State Park in Shelton.

At about 10:45 p.m., firefighters and police dive teams were dispatched to the park off Route 110 on a report of an overturned canoe in the Housatonic River. Firefighters from Derby and Seymour assisted in the rescue.

Two victims were located about 20 minutes into the search and the third person was located a short time later and transported to the hospital, Lt. Kevin McCue of the Shelton Fire Department told DoingItLocal.com.

According to the radio reports, the last victim was near 34 Birchbank Road, a considerable distance from the launch area.
