The Connecticut Economic Resource Center (CERC) will present awards to 20 economic development projects, programs and leaders from regions around the state, including Avalon Shelton.

The recipients will be honored at the annual “Celebrate CT!” event on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at the Bushnell in Hartford.

Avalon Shelton is one of two awardees from the Waterbury/Naugatuck region. Also being recognized from the region is Jay Carlson, Naugatuck Economic Development Corp. board chairman.

Avalon complex opened in spring

Avalon Shelton is a $60-million, 250-unit residential complex next to the Housatonic River. It is part of efforts to redevelop downtown Shelton, including along the riverfront and on Howe Avenue and other parts of the central business district.

In the spring, tenants began moving into Avalon Shelton. Company officials have said the apartment complex already has an 80% occupancy rate.

The complex has one- and two-bedroom units, ranging in size from about 700 to 1,500 square feet. There is a 370-space indoor parking structure, fitness room, large indoor community lounge, outdoor swimming pool, and outdoor courtyard with firepit.

Stimulating the economy

CERC President and CEO Robert Santy said Avalon Shelton and the other award recipients are having a positive impact on the business environment in Connecticut.

“These awards pay tribute to the hard-working people and successful programs and projects that are stimulating new jobs and investment in our economy,” Santy said.

More than 150 economic development and business professionals from around the state are expected to attend Celebrate CT! to recognize companies, projects, programs, organizations and individuals for their contributions to the state’s economy.

CERC, based in Rocky Hill, is a nonprofit corporation and public-private partnership that provides economic development services consistent with state strategies. Learn more at www.cerc.com.
