Five students from Perry Hill School were honored for their posters they made for the Shelton Community Lions Club annual Peace Poster Contest.

Lions Clubs International sponsors the program to emphasize the importance of world peace to young people everywhere. Five winners were chosen out of more than 200 entrees at Perry Hill. A pizza party was held for the winners and their parents and teachers at the Shelton Community Center earlier this month.

First prize was awarded to Ashley Collins, for her poster combining originality, artistic merit and portrayal of the contest theme, “Our World, Our Future,” according to the Shelton Lions.

Other winners were awarded to: Sydney Byron, second prize; Santino DeFlippo, third prize; and Hannah Mussatto and Mellissa Hunyadi received honorable mentions.

Ashley’s poster will advance through the district, multiple district and international levels of competition if she is to be declared the international grand prize winner.

“It is obvious that these young people have strong ideas about what peace means to them,” said Dave Haddad, president of the Shelton Lions Club. “I’m so proud that we were able to provide them with the opportunity to share their visions.”
