The deadline to apply for a nomination to a U.S. service academy for the 2014 school year from U.S. Rep. Jim Himes office is Dec. 2.
Nominations are considered for the Military Academy at West Point, the Naval Academy in Annapolis, the Merchant Marine Academy in New York and the Air Force Academy in Colorado. The Coast Guard Academy in Connecticut does not require a nomination.
“I invite any highly motivated, well-rounded, successful student to consider applying to these prestigious schools,” Himes said. “Our nation’s service academies develop students physically, ethically and intellectually as they build the foundation for a challenging and rewarding career as a military officer.”
Himes can only nominate people who live in the Fourth District, which covers most of Shelton.
To be eligible someone must between 17 and 23 years old, a U.S. citizen, unmarried, not pregnant, and have no legal obligation to support children or other dependents.
