The Shelton Youth Football & Cheer D10 cheer team is heading to the nationals in Orlando, Fla. on Dec. 15.

At the event, the fourth and fifth grade cheerleaders will compete against the best in the nation. “We are so proud of our girls, and we believe they have a solid shot at bringing home a national title,” said head coach Michelle Civale.

The D10 Vikings placed first at the New England AYC Regional Championships in Hartford on Nov. 23. They competed against 15 other teams from four states in their division at the regionals.

The Vikings also are state champions, with the highest score of all teams in all divisions in the state, as well as the local champions and grand champions in their age group.

Fund-raising events planned

The D10 team is large, with 35 athletes, and it is costly to get all members and their families to Florida on such short notice. To help offset the costs associated with going to the nationals, several fund-raising events have been planned.

Upcoming fund-raisers are:

Wednesday, Dec. 4: Eat at Bertucci’s Shelton and the restaurant will donate 15% of the check to the team (bring a copy of this article with you).

Saturday, Dec. 7: Seeking donations outside Dunkin’ Donuts, 427 Howe Ave, and Wendy’s, 484 Bridgeport Ave.

Sunday, Dec 8: Spin-a-thon at Taylor Made Fitness, 515 Bridgeport Ave., Shelton. Cost is $25 per hour, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Call 203-538-5175 to reserve a spot.

Sunday, Dec. 8: Seeking donations outside Riverdale Diner, 521 River Road.
