Happenings at the Shelton Senior Center

Here is what is happening at the Shelton Senior Center. For more of a break down, click here for our calendar of events. To note, Wi-Fi is now available to members from 9 to 4:30 p.m.

 

The Shelton Senior Center is a drop off point for Team’s Toys for Kids drive. Toys accepted for youth birth to 14. Gift cards accepted

 

Financial exploitation, prevention and intervention — Cathy Ferreira-Golino, branch manager of People’s  United Bank presents Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 10 a.m. Non-members welcome.

 

Holiday concert — Senior Center Songsters perform Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 1 p.m. Family and friends are welcome. Refreshments available after the concert.

 

November/December birthday party — Friday, Dec. 12, 1 p.m. Music by Vinnie Carr. Tickets are $4 and will be sold until Dec. 10 at noon.

 

Membership meeting — Friday, Dec. 13, 10:30 a.m. Minutes from the previous meeting and this month’s agenda are posted on the membership board. Refreshments available.

 

Book club — Meets Friday, Dec. 13, at 1 p.m. December’s book is One Good Turn by Kate Ackinson. January’s is And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini. Members only.

 

Holiday party — Held Friday, Dec. 27, at noon. Cost is $15. Luncheon: Stuffed rigatoni marinara, turkey breast with gravy, parsley red potatoes, peas and onions, Caesar salad, garlic bread and ice cream roll. Music by Vinnie Carr.

 

New Year’s celebration — Welcome in 2014 on Friday, Jan. 3, at noon. Luncheon buffet: Prime rib of beef with bordelaise sauce, chicken scarpiello, string beans almondine, baked stuffed potatoes, garden salad, roll, dessert, coffee or tea and white Zinfandel for a New Year’s toast. Music by Vinnie Carr. Cost: $18. Tickets on sale Thursday, Dec. 12, through Monday, Dec. 30.

 

January birthday party — Friday, Jan. 24, at 1 p.m. Cost: $4. Music by Vinnie Carr. Tickets on sale Friday, Jan. 3, through Jan. 22 at noon. Let staff know if it’s your birthday or anniversary.

 

Volunteers needed — The center is looking for volunteers to help in the Snack Bar  (Wednesdays 9-11 a.m.) and the kitchen (Tuesdays and Fridays, 11:15-1 p.m.).

 

Games — Wii Bowling, Thursdays at 2 p.m.; Bingo, Monday, Wednesday and Friday 1 p.m.

 

Pool lessons — Available for members;.call 203-924-9324 for an appointment.
