Many dozens of people — mostly families with young children — were in attendance.

In addition to Santa’s arrival on a Shelton fire truck, the event included the lighting of the tree, the singing of Christmas carols, remarks by Mayor Mark Lauretti and ceremony organizer Roger J. Spinelli, and hot cocoa and muffins from Auntie’s Cafe in Huntington Center.

Youngsters were able to meet with Santa, who sat on a chair in front of the tree inside the gazebo, to discuss their Christmas wishes.
