Most people don’t like doing their taxes, but Robert A. Gambardella thrives on it. “I live and breathe this stuff,” Gambardella said. “This is what I was born to do. I like to solve riddles — and every tax is a riddle.”

A ribbon-cutting ceremony took place last week for the new office of Gambardella’s business, Concierge Tax Services, at 2 Corporate Drive in the Scinto Enterprise Corporate Park.

Gambardella was joined by Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce representatives, city officials, business associates, and friends at the event.

The new office is located in a Class A office building that should be convenient and comfortable for his clients, Gambardella said. “The extra space supports our rapid growth,” he said.

“You certainly have taken a step up when you come to the Scinto Towers,” Board of Aldermen President John F. Anglace Jr. remarked.

Bill Purcell, Chamber president, described the new location as “a major milestone” for the tax planning business. He said Gambardella frequently is featured on TV and in print articles because of his expertise on business tax strategies.

Anglace, noting he once had done people’s taxes for $5 a return when younger, predicted there will be many positive milestones during Gambardella’s career.

Business began in 2005

Concierge Tax Services has been in business since 2005, evolving from a part-time basic tax preparation service into a tax advisory firm that offers proactive advice to business owners. It employs three part-time people in addition to Gambardella.

Gambardella most recently was finance director and controller for a PerkinElmer business division in Shelton. He previously worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers and GE Commercial Financial Services.

He said having his own business was “a dream come true,” and involved taking a risk by leaving the corporate world.

Gambardella described 2012 as “a breakout year” for him, when he co-authored the best-selling book “Secrets of a Tax Free Life: Surprising Write Off Strategies Most Business Owners Miss” and received the nation’s Certified Tax Coach of the Year Award from the American Institute of Certified Tax Coaches.

“I don’t know where it goes from here,” he said. “Where it starts is with a nice office.”

As a certified tax coach, he works to combine his knowledge of changing tax laws with clients’ specific situations, generating a customized tax plan to optimize tax savings, according to publicity material.
