Shelton Girl Scouts will begin taking cookie orders in the coming days with the official start of the 2014 Girl Scout cookie program being Jan. 4.
Eight cookie varieties will be available this year — Thin Mints, Samoas, Tagalongs, Do-si-dos, Trefoils, Dulce De Leche, Thank U Berry Munch, and Savannah Smiles.
The girls also will take orders for the Cookies for Heroes service project, in which people can purchase Girl Scout cookies to be sent to members of the U.S. armed services at home and overseas.
Selling cookies teaches skills
Supporters who purchase the cookies help Girl Scouts learn five skills — goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics. Proceeds from Girl Scouts of Connecticut’s cookie program stay in Connecticut and benefit all Girl Scouts in the state.
Girl Scout cookie fans who don’t know a Girl Scout can go to www.gsofct.org and click on the cookie graphic to connect with participating Girl Scouts in Shelton.
