A public hearing on proposed changes to the police hiring ordinance in Shelton scheduled for tonight has been canceled due to the snowstorm.
The hearing by the Shelton Board of Aldermen had been set for Thursday, Jan. 2 at 7 p.m. in the City Hall auditorium. It will be rescheduled for a future date.
One goal of the proposed changes is to make it less cumbersome to hire those already certified to be officers in the state, partly because of the difficulty of placing recruits in police academies for training on a timely basis.
The Shelton Police Department may hire up to six police officers in 2014, due mostly to a large number of recent retirements.
