Here’s what’s going on at Plumb Memorial Library:
Kids in the Kitchen — Wednesday, Jan. 8, 6 p.m. This year, explore cuisine from around the world, starting at home by sampling cornbread, a traditional American dish. For children ages 3 and older, must be accompanied by an adult; unattended children will not be allowed to participate. Adults-expect to take part too; dress for mess or bring an apron or smock; register, inform library staff of any allergies.
AlphaBits — Thursday, Jan. 9 and 16, 10:30 a.m. Preschoolers and caregivers work on learning skills to make them ready for kindergarten; drop in; siblings welcome.
Shelton School Readiness Council — Thursday, Jan. 9, 2 p.m. Community members interested in supporting preschool children and their families with events and activities focusing on readiness issues; new members welcome.
Valley 2-D Art — Thursday, Jan. 9, 6 p.m. Two hour open workshop for area artists and crafters looking for room to spread out and the opportunity to share feedback and criticism with others; sketching, painting, crafting opportunities.
Toastmasters — Thursday, Jan. 9, 6 p.m. Area speech group meets for support and development, interested new members welcome.
Stay & Play — Fridays, Jan. 10 and 17, 10:30 a.m. Open play dates for preschoolers and caregivers; chat over coffee or tea, juice provided, bring a snack and a friend.
Teen Volunteer Orientation — Saturday, Jan. 11, 10 a.m. Teens who need community service hours stop in anytime to complete an application and attend this orientation; no registration required. Parents: expect to attend this workshop with teens. Volunteers must be 12-19 years old, and may not be completing these hours for court or disciplinary board assignments. Budding Bookworms — Monday, Jan. 13, 10:30 a.m. A themed drop in story and craft time for kids 1-5 years old and their caregivers — Freezer Dance and Do Re Mi.
SW CAPA — Monday, Jan. 13, 6:30 p.m. Regional authors and publishers meet for support and discussion, new members welcome.
Fun for Little Ones — Tuesdays, Jan. 14 and 21, 10 a.m. Mrs. Fritsch offers stories, songs, and movement for babies and toddlers up to age 2 in this themed drop in program; siblings welcome.
Plumb Picassos — Tuesdays, Jan. 14 and 21, 2 p.m. Drop-in art based program for kids 1-5 and their caregivers that explore art through picture books and then create original pieces, Freeze Dance and play Miss Maura Says.
Mother Daughter Book Club — Thursday, Jan. 16, 6 p.m. Girls in grades 4-6 and their most important woman (aunts, grandmas and moms) are featured in this new book club. No registration is necessary and multiple copies of the selected book are now available for pre-session reading; refreshments and door prizes each month.
Teens Booked for Lunch — Saturday, Jan. 25, 12:30 p.m. Teens 13-19 drop in for a book discussion over a quick lunch. No registration, pick up a copy in the teen room at the library.
Teen Boost — Saturday, Jan. 25, 1:45 p.m. Teens 13-19 drop in for cooking, crafts and more.
Teen Movie Critics — Saturday, Jan. 25, 3 p.m. Teens 13-19 drop in to watch and critique movies from all ages and genres; a light dinner aids discussion.
1000 Books Before K — Information and supplies all provided at sign-up. To encourage families to read together, with the help of the Shelton School Readiness Council and Friends of the Shelton Libraries the Plumb Library is offering support for tracking all 1,000 books plus rewards and prizes along the way. Funding from the Valley Community Foundation and the Valley United Way supports this new adventure.
Home Delivery — Shelton residents who cannot get to the library due to temporary or permanent disability are welcome to apply for home delivery of library materials. Contact the branch library, 203- 926-0111). A project underwritten with support from the Friends of the Library and the Valley Community Foundation.
