FIRE VICTIM DONATIONS: Gift cards now needed rather than clothing

Volunteers asking for store gift cards to best help residents

Echo Hose Hook & Ladder Fire Company is looking for gift cards to stores such as Walmart, Target, Stop & Shop, Lowe’s, Home Depot, Sears and similar-type stores to help victims of the Howe Avenue fire in downtown Shelton on Monday.

“As of right now we are no longer in need of clothing, but will not turn any of it away if brought,” Echo Hose officials wrote on their Facebook page this morning. “Also at this time we will be looking for certain types of furniture or gift cards to furniture stores to help setup their new homes.”

Volunteers to help with donations are still needed.

“If you have any questions we please ask you stop down the fire house and talk to our team of dedicated volunteers working this event,” they wrote. “If you cannot make it down, we ask to please call only as a last resort due to the fact that our phones have been ringing non stop.”

The phone number for the Echo Hose fire house is 203-924-4200. The fire house is at 379 Coram Ave., near the downtown post office.
