WARNING: Thin ice forms on pavement surfaces in spots in Shelton

A thin layer of ice has formed on some road surfaces and other paved areas in Shelton, as of about 7:45 p.m. on Friday.

The light rain that has been falling is freezing on the ground in spots, with temperatures now at — or just above — freezing in the area.

Some plows are out treating the major highways such as Route 8, but untreated surfaces can be slippery.

Be careful when walking

This includes when walking on foot, with parking lots and sidewalks being especially slippery at this time.

People were just observed slipping while walking in a large retail parking lot on lower Bridgeport Avenue due to the conditions. Some people were holding on to each other as they walked together as a way to prevent from falling.

The low tonight in Shelton is expected to be in the low to mid 30s, which means some hilly areas could remain below freezing in the coming hours.

It’s supposed to warm up as the night goes on, however, and should get into the 50s tomorrow. Heavy rain is expected on Saturday.
