Cable company waives some fees for Shelton fire victims

Cable provider Comcast is waiving fees on damaged or destroyed cable equipment for customers affected by the Jan. 6 fire on Howe Avenue in downtown Shelton.

U.S. Sens. Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy, who represent Connecticut, applauded the move. The Comcast decision came after some fire victims expressed frustration with the company’s billing plans after the blaze, during a meeting with Blumenthal and a Murphy staff person in Shelton late last week.

Blumenthal and Murphy released this statement on the situation:

“We applaud Comcast for moving quickly to help families displaced by the terrible fire in Shelton,” they said. “Many of these families lost everything they owned in this awful disaster, and Comcast waiving these fees will now be money saved for other items as these people work to recover from the blaze.

“We’re glad that we were able to help facilitate this quick resolution so these residents have one less thing to worry about as they take on the daunting task of getting their lives back to normal,” the statement continued. “We’ll continue to work with those affected to offer any other assistance that we can to help.”
