As of 5 p.m. on Monday, about 5 inches of snow has fallen on the ground on lower Bridgeport Avenue in Shelton, close to the Trumbull border.
Snow is still coming down but at a reduced rate, and the snow is expected to stop in the coming hours.
The snow started early this morning, just before daybreak in Shelton, with forecasters predicting Shelton would receive from 4 to 6 inches during the course of the day.
New storm on the way
More snow is expected on late Tuesday into Wednesday, with the National Weather Service (NWS) having issued a winter storm watch for the area.
The new storm could bring an equivalent amount of snow to southwestern Connecticut, before the precipitation turns to sleet and freezing rain and leaves a coating of ice, the NWS said.
