Leader of nonprofit agency in Valley to retire from job

The president and chief executive officer of TEAM Inc. will retire at the end of this year after more than three decades of service.

Richard Knoll has worked for 34 years at the anti-poverty agency that serves a 10-town region, including Shelton and the rest of the Valley. His upcoming retirement was announced by the TEAM board of directors.

“Managing TEAM has been a pleasure and a privilege,” Knoll said. “It has permitted me to meet and know a wide range of talented and dedicated people. I retire knowing that the agency is in excellent condition and professional hands.”

He is the longest serving president in the agency’s 49-year history.

TEAM’s services have multiplied

Under his guidance and leadership, TEAM’s services have multiplied. The Derby-based agency now employs more than 80 people and is financially stable, according to a TEAM press release.

TEAM operates from seven locations, serving thousands of individuals and families each year with a wide array of services from infant care and early education to senior independence programs.

Stephane Skibo, TEAM board chairman, said board members are grateful for Knoll’s accomplishments.

“He developed TEAM from an agency with serious deficiencies to one that is a model statewide and a key partner to all other Valley nonprofits,” Skibo said.

Searching for a replacement

“We applaud his legacy,” Skibo said, “and know that finding a worthy successor will be our way to honor him and TEAM.”

The board has established an internal search committee to find a replacement for when Knoll steps down on Dec. 31. Knoll will assist with the search process to ensure a successful transition to new leadership.

Hired in 1980, active in community

Knoll was hired in 1980 to work in accounting and human resources at the agency, then struggling to improve community relations and program quality.

Prior to TEAM, he worked in municipal administration, grants management, and vocational and educational counseling.

Knoll has been involved the community outside of his role at TEAM. He is active with Rotary International and in the nonprofit sector at both the local and state levels, serving on other nonprofit boards dedicated to human services.
