“Fiddler on the Roof” will continue through Feb. 23 at Center Stage Theater in Shelton.
Performances of the award-winning Broadway musical take place at the Shelton nonprofit cultural venue at 54 Grove St., in the former Lafayette School complex.
The local production is being directed by Center Stage Theatre founders, the husband-and-wife team of Gary and Francesca Scarpa.
The play tells the story of a poor Jewish dairyman in Russia in the early 1900s who struggles with changing times and the dissolution of traditions.
Tony Award-winning musical
The original production of “Fiddler on the Roof” opened in New York City in 1964 and won nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
Starring in the Center Stage production is Derby resident Marc Garofalo as Tevye. Garofalo is the former mayor of Derby.
Kathryn Twohill and Tara Werner, both of Shelton, have leading roles as two of Tevye’s daughters.
Performances are Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. All remaining shows are sold out.
