Kyle McGinnis won the title at 120 pounds, while Liam Cummings took first at 170, powering host Shelton High to a fourth-place finish at the SCC Tournament on Saturday.

Xavier High of Middletown cruised to the team title by compiling 224.0 points, capturing SCCs for the third time in a row. Inclement weather caused the cancellation of the tournament in 2013.  Daniel Hand of Madison (103.5), Foran High of Milford (85), Shelton (84.5) and Amity (85) rounded out the top five.

McGinnis, a sophomore, was the top seed at 120. He controlled Xavier’s Patrick Precourt, 6-0, to claim his first conference crown.

Cummings, a senior, shut out Seve Burgos of Xavier, 4-0, to pick up the title at 170. No. 1 seed Cummings, who improved to 44-1 overall, avenged his lone loss of the regular season — which came at the hands of Burgos.

Nick Pogacsas was runner-up at 145 and Nico DiStasio placed third at 113 to round out the top finishers for coach Bill Maloney’s Gaels.
