NEW FIRE SITE PHOTOS: Getting the charred debris out of there

Work has continued this week to remove debris from the site of the massive fire on Jan. 6 in downtown Shelton. (Photos taken on Feb. 27 by Brad Durrell)

A large piece of construction equipment is being used to scoop up the charred remnants from the former structural footprint at Howe Avenue and Bridge Street.

The fire destroyed 23 apartments and about a half-dozen storefronts. A few buildings in the historic block survived the blaze, including one with a few stores.
