Olivia DeFilippo of Shelton went far in a statewide singing competition. She was a finalist in the Connecticut Can U Sing USA competition.
Hundreds of contestants from Connecticut and surrounding areas auditioned to be chosen for the semi-finals.
After submitting a video performance, Olivia was chosen to compete in the semi-finals and then as a finalist against seven other contestants ages 11-18.
Can U Sing USA was founded by Emmy Award-nominated songwriter Jill Nesi to provide the opportunity for singers to showcase their talents.
Involved in cheer, drama and singing
Olivia, 15, is sophomore at Sacred Heart Academy in Hamden, where she is a member of the varsity cheer team, drama club and vice president of the SHAcapellas — an acapella group she helped form.
Olivia has appeared in several musical theater productions at St. Lawrence School in Shelton and at Square Foot Theatre in Hamden. Most recently she appeared as orphan “July” in Sacred Heart Academy’s production of Annie at the New Haven Shubert Theatre.
Olivia plans to pursue a degree in musical theater after graduating from Sacred Heart.
