Giving Day could be profitable for local nonprofits

The Fairfield County Community Foundation and Bank of America are launching a new way to help Fairfield County residents support the work of local nonprofits.

Fairfield County Giving Day — an online 24-hour day of giving — is set for Friday, March 7, and it is hoped that $1 million can be raised for more than 300 nonprofits throughout the region.

During the 24-hour period, donors are encouraged to make online donations to organizations doing work in areas critical to the community — from housing to education to the arts and more.

The nonprofit receiving the most individual donations will receive a $25,000 prize. Other incentives and matching gifts also will awarded.

How to give

Beginning at midnight and through 11:59 p.m., donations on March 7 can be made online at www.fcgives.org. Using this website, people can search for favorite local nonprofits and make donations to support their work.

The New Haven Community Foundation recently held a similar 36-hour online donation drive, called The Great Give, raising more than $750,000 for its local nonprofits.
