Here’s what’s going on at Plumb Memorial Library this week:
Kids in the Kitchen — Wednesday, March 12, 6:30 p.m. Features simple cooking skills for kids 5 and up with caregivers; dress for mess.
AlphaBits — Thursdays, March 13 and 20, 10:30 a.m. Preschoolers and caregivers work on learning skills to make them ready for kindergarten; drop in; siblings welcome.
Shelton School Readiness Council — Thursday, March 13, 2 p.m. Community members meet in support of preschool children and their families; new members welcome.
Mother Daughter Book Club — Thursday, March 13, 6:30 p.m., Stolen Children by Peg Kehret. The free program features discussion of the book plus craft and refreshments for girls in grades 2-4 and their mom or other important grownup. Copies available.
Library Home School Network — Friday, March 14, 2 p.m. Area home school families visit to share resources and information, refreshments.
Tea with Friends — Saturday, March 15, 1 p.m. Betty Johnson of Bigelow Tea visits bringing background, history and tea culture information; she has been associated with Bigelow Tea located in Fairfield for 20 years. Hosted by the Friends of the Shelton Libraries, interested members of the public are welcome to bring their own favorite tea cup for an impromptu tea party, with free refreshments for all.
How to Train Your Dragon Academy — Saturday, March 15, 2 p.m. Kids 1-12 are invited to drop in and craft a “dragon” of their very own, then design the Viking gear they will need to navigate Plumb’s first Viking Obstacle Course.
VITA: Volunteer Income Tax Assistance — Tuesdays 1-4 p.m., Wednesdays, 5:30-7:30 p.m. and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. IRS-trained volunteers, income limits; no reservations, register at the children’s desk. This year’s sessions begin Tuesday, Feb. 4, bring in last year’s return for speedier results.
Budding Bookworms — Mondays, March 17 and 24, 10:30 a.m. A themed drop in story and craft time for kids 1-5 years old and their caregivers — Freezer Dance and Do Re Mi.
Fun for Little Ones — Tuesdays, March 18 and 25, 10 a.m. Mrs. Fritsch offers stories, songs, and movement for babies and toddlers up to age 2 in this themed drop in program; siblings welcome.
Plumb Picassos — Tuesdays, March 18 and 25, 2 p.m. Drop-in art based program for kids 1-5 and their caregivers that explore art through picture books and then create original pieces, Freeze Dance and play Miss Maura Says.
Teen Saturday — Saturday, March 22. All-afternoon events for teens 13-18, 12:30 p.m. Booked for Lunch; 1:45 p.m. Create; 3 p.m. Movie Critics screen over light refreshments.
Library Lego Club — Saturday, March 22, 2 p.m. For kids 3-12. Drop-in session to create original constructions using LEGOs/ Duplos provided by the library. Each child’s creation goes on display until the next club meeting. Library Legos/ Duplos do not go home.
Growing Readers Family Workshop — Thursday, March 27, 10:30 a.m. Shelton School Readiness Council sponsors The Approachable Non-fiction Book with Miss Maura. This drop-in parent/child session will offer adults lots of ideas on how to choose fun books they and their children will enjoy.
1000 Books Before K
Information and supplies all provided at sign-up. To encourage families to read together, with the help of the Shelton School Readiness Council and Friends of the Shelton Libraries the Plumb Library is offering support for tracking all 1,000 books plus rewards and prizes along the way. Funding from the Valley Community Foundation and the Valley United Way supports this new adventure.
Shelton residents who cannot get to the library due to temporary or permanent disability are welcome to apply for home delivery of library materials. Contact the branch library, 203- 926-0111). A project underwritten with support from the Friends of the Library and the Valley Community Foundation.
