Donors needed for blood drive in Shelton on Wednesday

Be an everyday hero during Red Cross Month

Blood donors are everyday heroes who help save lives, and blood donors are needed for an upcoming blood drive in Shelton.

The American Red Cross is accepting appointments on Wednesday, March 12 from 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at R.D. Scinto Towers, 2 Corporate Drive.

March is Red Cross Month, and the American Red Cross partners with nearly 2,700 hospitals and transfusion centers throughout the United States.

‘Our heroes’

For more than 70 years, all U.S. presidents have designated March as Red Cross Month to recognize how the American Red Cross helps people across the country and around the world.

“Our heroes are our volunteers and blood donors generously give their time to help save lives,” said Steve Mavica, communications manager for the Connecticut Blood Services Region.

To make an appointment to give blood and be an everyday hero, visit redcrossblood.org or call 800-RED CROSS (800-733-2767).

How to donate blood

All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in.

Individuals who are 17 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds, and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
