Expect the temperature to drop as much as 25 degrees between today and tomorrow in Shelton.
While it may be 48 degrees as of 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, it will be about 24 degrees this time on Thursday.
And there likely will be some snow on the ground, although not a lot. Plus it’s going to get windy.
Rain later today, then snow
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), rain is likely this afternoon as well as tonight in Shelton.
The rain should eventually change to snow in the middle of the night, with an overnight low of 17 degrees, the NWS said. Shelton could pick up a coating to an inch of snow.
Strong winds on Thursday
Winds also will pick up, and be especially strong on Thursday, when sustained winds could be 24 mph. The daytime high for Thursday will be 24 degrees, the NWS said.
The temperature will drop down to 9 degrees on Thursday night into Friday.
Friday should sunny, with a high near 38 degrees. Daytime highs will be in the 40s over the weekend, with a chance for more snow on Sunday night.
Areas north to get lots of snow
This storm is expected to have a major impact north of Shelton.
A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Litchfield County, where 2 to 8 inches of snow plus ice are expected late Wednesday into Thursday morning.
Massive amounts of snow are predicted for northern New England and far upstate New York, with up to 20 inches possible during the same period.
Extreme caution is urged for anyone having to travel to northern New England or far upstate New York in the next day or so.
