Shelton High School students recognized at state science fair

Shelton High School students were at Quinnipiac University presented their science projects at the Connecticut State Science Fair March 15-16, and were awarded for their efforts.

“This is awesome to have so many of our kids get recognized,” said Mary Clark, SHS science curriculum leader. “I thank all the teachers who helped make this year’s SHS Science Fair a great success. We can be very proud of our students’ achievements.”

 

Those recognized

— Veina Pillai received second honors and the Institute of Food Technologists, $50 Nutmeg Section award and an invitation to dinner for her project The Effect of Bitter Gourd on Blood Sugar Levels.

 

— Rigel Mahmood received second honors and the following awards for her project Development of a Simulation Model for the Solution of Einstein’s General Relativity and Quantum Mechanics Based on Causal Dynamical Triangulation. She was given $100 People’s United Bank Mathematics Awards with ATOMIC and a plaque, $300 from People’s United Bank, Xerox Computer Science Awards  Senior High Finalist – medallion and acrylic award and the $150 Connecticut College-Physics, Astronomy, and Geophysics Department Award, a T-shirt and certificate.

 

— Joshua Kreitler received second honors, a medallion and an acrylic award for the CASE Urban School Challenge Awards with Bristol-Myers Squibb and Travelers for his project Determining Natural Pigment Category that Leads to the Highest Output of Current and Voltage on Dye-Sensitized Solar Cell.

 

— Alexander Ercolani received second honors for his project Do Sugar Substitutes Allow Yeast to Perform Cellular Respiration?

 

— Joseph Niski and Ian Diaz received second honors for their project Blades of Fury Pt. 2: Weight Efficiency.

 

— Two projects received third honors: Samantha Rubio, Monica Holler and Jared Peck for their project Gravimetric Analysis of Calcium and Hard Water; and Kelly Sou for her project The Genetic Touch.
