Progress continues on new Shelton animal shelter

Work continues on the city’s new $1.4-million animal shelter on Riverdale Avenue, set to open this spring. (March 31 photos by Brad Durrell)

The outside of the structure is mostly complete, with work remaining on the interior and on the grounds.

The 6,000-square-foot building will have a residential-type design and provide space for 30 dogs and 20 cats, replacing the nearby existing facility that is much smaller and considered antiquated.

Riverdale Avenue is in downtown Shelton and runs near the Housatonic River, just south of the Riverwalk/Veterans Memorial Park.
