Shelton defeats Branford, 4-2

Senior co-captain Kendall Hansen belted a run-scoring triple to tie the game and then ripped an RB double to put the Gaelettes on top, as the Shelton High softball team hung on for a 4-2 season-opening win over visiting Branford on Thursday.
Junior Kaysee Talcik surrendered a first-inning run when Cynthia Lerman reached base on a dropped third strike and came around to score on a stolen base and a wild pitch.
Talcik went on to strike out four batters in the first inning and wound up with 13 strikeouts, allowing just three hits in the complete game effort.
Hansen drove in Gina Ciambriello on a triple in the fourth inning and sent Sam Woods home with the go-ahead run on a double in the fifth.
