The state will honor its two NCAA championship basketball teams with a late afternoon parade Sunday, April 13 in Hartford.
The 2014 Victory Parade for the UConn men’s and women’s basketball teams will begin at 4 p.m., starting and ending at the state Capitol building in downtown Hartford. It will be immediately followed by a rally on the north portico of the Capitol building.
The parade and rally are open to the public, and the weather is expected to be good.
Both the men’s and women’s Husky teams won the national championship earlier this week.
Business support for the parade
Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has announced that Connecticut’s business community has stepped up with the funding needed to produce the parade and rally for the UConn basketball teams.
“In less than two days, the Hartford Business Improvement District (HBID) has organized nearly $70,000 from donors to help pay for a wide range of costs that include physical operations, public safety personnel, staging equipment, insurance, vehicles, transportation and clean-up,” said Malloy, singling out HBID’s Mike Zaleski for his efforts.
As of the morning of April 11, the following businesses have contributed funds to cover the costs of the parade and rally:
Bank of America
Capital Region Development Authority
Connecticut Buick and GMC Dealers
The Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Co.
Harvard Pilgrim Health Care
