Obituary: Carolyn (Mancine) Stangel, 88, of Shelton

Carolyn (Mancine) Stangel, age 88, of Shelton, passed away April 11, 2014 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center.

Mrs. Stangel was born in Bridgeport to the late Francis and Margaret Mancine and was a longtime Shelton resident.

A graduate of Warren Harding High School class of 1943, she was a property contract administrator for the federal government department of defense.

An active member of St Lawrence Church, she sang in the choir for many years. She was also a member of the Shelton and Derby Senior Center, singing in their choirs as well. Mrs. Stangel was the president of NARFE.

She was predeceased by her husband John Stangel, her son James Stangel, and her brothers Francis, James and Thomas Mancine.

She is survived by two children Joseph Stangel of Shelton and Maribeth Dawless and her husband William of RI, two sisters Margaret Reynolds and her husband Wallace and Kathleen Valeriano all of OK; three grandchildren Kimberly Stangel, Kendra and Courtney Dawless and several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to attend her funeral services on Monday at 11:30 a.m. directly at St. Lawrence Church 505 Shelton Ave. Shelton, CT. Interment in Lawn Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the CT Humane Society 701 Russell Rd. Newington, CT 06111.
