Shelton residents helping to organize charity event

Shelton residents Pam Blanchette and Dottie Kellersmann are on the committee organizing the eighth annual Magic Moments autism fund-raiser for the Kennedy Center on Saturday, May 3.

The New York City Swing, a band, will perform at the Bijou Theatre in downtown Bridgeport at 9 p.m. The band specializes in a full range of dance music through all eras.

The evening begins at 7 p.m. with a cocktail party, food and silent auction. The emcee will be Jocelyn Maminta, News 8 medical reporter.

Prior to the main concert, 8-year-old autistic piano prodigy Ethan Walmark of Westport will showcase his talent. Ethan has appeared on a variety of local and national TV shows.

About the Autism Project

The event is the main funding source for the Kennedy Center Autism Project, which helps more than 450 local children with autism spectrum disorders and their families.

Established in 2006, the Autism Project supports children with autism spectrum disorders and their families.

The program provides children and families with information referral and resources; family support and service coordination, financial assistance, support for children in community activities, behavioral services, and new services for unmet needs within the community.

The nonprofit Kennedy Center provides programs for persons with disabilities and special needs, from birth to senior years. It currently serves 2,400 individuals annually.
