A promotional video filmed in Shelton highlighting the simple steps that people can take to help the environment has been completed.

The Milford-based company Capsells did the filming for the video on April 12 in Shelton’s Riverview Park, which is on Howe Avenue just north of downtown.

The video was designed to promote the message of Earth Day and featured people of all ages making promises to better the environment.

“It was wonderful to see so many local people come together and share the changes they want to make,” said Gina Scarpa, e-commerce and marketing manager at Capsells. “Water conservation can be as simple as turning off the faucet when you brush your teeth.”

‘Earth Day Promise’

The video, titled “Earth Day Promise,” was directed by Scarpa and produced by videographer Brian Maresca. The video lasts slightly more than two minutes.

“Earth Day Promise” aims to show people that no matter how large or small their contribution is, one commitment toward preserving the planet can make a difference.

Some of the promises made by people are to take shorter showers, use both sides of paper, use re-useable shopping bags, use clothe diapers, do laundry with cold water, stop using styrofoam, stop using paper cups and plastic cups, turn off competers when sleeping at night, support local farms, spend more time outdoors, recycle cell phones, pay bills online, and clean a park.

Impact of Earth Day

The first Earth Day was held in 1970 and yielded unforeseen results. Many credit Earth Day with playing a role in the creation of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the passing of the federal Clean Air, Clean Water and Endangered Species acts.

By 1990, Earth Day had gone global, with 200 million people participating across 141 countries.
