Toastmasters at the Towers Club in Shelton is marking its 10-year anniversary in April. The club is dedicated to helping people become better speakers and leaders.

The Toastmasters club seeks to provide a supportive and positive environment where members can overcome their fears of public speaking and sharpen presentation skills.

The local Toastmasters club meets the second and fourth Wednesday of each month in the first-floor conference room at 1 Corporate Drive. New members are always welcome.

Meeting site helps with recruitment

Since its founding in 2003, R.D. Scinto Inc. has been the club’s corporate sponsor and provides the facilities where the club meets. The meeting location has served as a recruiting vehicle for new members since it is centered within the office complex.

Jeffrey Bernhard, the club’s vice president for public relations, said the organization is about networking opportunities as well as public speaking. “Toastmasters not only improves speaking skills but also broadens our member’s networks,” Bernhard said.

Greg Kazmierczak, club president, said the club also can help members increase their confidence, build critical thinking skills and become more effective listeners.

Andy Bernhardt, club secretary and former president, said Toastmasters “can help a lot on job interview skills, especially the critical questions that employers ask.”
