A movie theater employee was robbed at gunpoint, tied up and locked in a closet early Thursday morning at the Seymour Entertainment Cinemas, in the Tri-Town Plaza off Route 8.
Seymour police are collaborating with Shelton police, who are investigating a similar incident that occurred the prior night (Wednesday, April 23) at a Shelton business.
According to Deputy Police Chief Paul Satkowski, three males entered the Seymour movie theater complex wearing masks shortly after midnight. The men ambushed an overnight maintenance worker, threatened him and tied his hands behind his back.
Took money from theater safe
The men then robbed the worker of his personal belongings, and locked him in a closet. The three ransacked the manager’s office, eventually managing to break into the safe. The three took an undetermined amount of cash from the safe and then left the building.
The worker was able to escape from the closet and ran to a nearby business in the plaza. Workers at the business freed the man’s hands and then called police. The worker was not injured and did not require medical treatment, Satkowski said.
One assailant is described as a heavy set Hispanic male, about 6-feet, 2-inches tall and wearing a beige coat and winter hat. The other two assailants may be Hispanic. All three men were bilingual, speaking English and Spanish during the incident.
Satkowski said police have recovered several pieces of evidence, but detectives would like to speak to anyone who may have been in the area of Tri-Town Plaza at the time of the robbery.

This is the second robbery at the Seymour Entertainment Cinemas this year. In January, a concession employee fended off a knife-wielding assailant. Police arrested a Stratford man in connection with that robbery attempt April 22, just two days before the latest incident.
