Track and field: SIS sweeps Mellilo

The Shelton Intermediate School’s boys and girls track team swept Mellilo Middle School of East Haven.

The boys won by a score of 64 to 8 and the girls won 47 to 35.

In the 100 meter race, Matt Bean took first with a time of 12.73 seconds and Nick Andrade took second with a time of 13.07 seconds.

In the 200 meter race, Cameron Gumbs took home first with a lightning quick 27.87 seconds run. John Paul Feliciano took home second with a run of 28.72 seconds and Alex Sampaio came in third with a time of 29.5 seconds.

In the 400 meter race, Bean took first with a time of 1:02.75 and Matt Richard took third with a time of 1:05.56.

In the 800 meter race, the boys took home first, second and third place. Spencer Gangi took first with a time of 2:35, Mac Sheldon took second with a time of 2:45, and John DeRosa took third with a time of 2:50.

In the 1,600 meter race, Richard, Gangi and Nick Dingwall took home first, second and third place respectively. Richard ran the mile in 5:28, Gangi ran it in 5:33 and Dingwall ran it in 5:51.

In the 4 x 100, the team of Sampaio, Andrade, Bean and Mike Zannis took first place with a time of 53 seconds flat. In the 4 x 400, the team of Bean, Zannis, r Gangi and Feliciano took first place with a time of 4:35.

In the long jump, Bean took first with a jump of 15’2 and Nathan Oakes took second with a jump of 14’9.

In the shot put, Bruno Perlicki took first with a throw of 33’6 and Zannis took second with a throw of 32’10.

For the girls, Liz Herlihy took first in the 100 with a time of 13.56 seconds.

In the 200 meter race, Herlihy took second with a time of 29.68 seconds and Catie Lindberg took third with a time of 29.78 seconds.

Sarah Johnson kept up her stellar performance in the four hundred, by taking first with a time of 1:10 seconds and Louise Kim took second with a time of 1:12 seconds.

In the 800 meter race, Johnson placed second with a time of 2:48 and Brenna Sastram took third with a time of 2:52.

In the 1,600 meter race, Heather Garrett, Kim, and Maggie Howard swept the event. Garrett led the team with a time of 6:05, followed by Kim (6:16) and Howard (6:25).

In the 4 x 400, the team of Johnson, Herlihy, Mariam Dobosz and Elise Wardell took first place with a time of 5:00.

In the shot put, Haley Adcox took second with a throw of 25’ feet and Johnson took third with a throw of 22’7.

In the long jump, Lindberg took second with a jump of 12’8 and Molly Carr took third with a jump of 13’2.
