Shelton parking ban for Memorial Day announced

A Shelton Boy Scout troop holds a large American flag while marching on Center Street in the 2013 Memorial Day parade.

A parking ban will be in effect beginning at 6:30 a.m. on Monday, May 26 on some downtown Shelton streets for the Derby/Shelton Memorial Day parade.

The parade will begin at 9 a.m. at Howe Avenue and Wharf Street (the road next to Route 8 and Inline Plastics) in Shelton.

The parking ban covers:

— Howe Avenue (from Kneen Street/Route 8 to White Street)

— Kneen Street (Howe Avenue to Coram Avenue)

— Coram Avenue (Kneen Street to White Street)

— White Street (Coram Avenue to Howe Avenue).

 

The parking ban will be lifted when the parade ends. Police officials said vehicles improperly parked will be towed so the parade can proceed.

 

Parade route

The parade will begin at 9 a.m. at Howe Avenue and Wharf Street. Marchers will be lining up in advance in this vicinity.

Marchers will proceed:

— south on Howe Avenue to Kneen Street

— right on Kneen Street to Coram Avenue

— right on Coram Avenue (crossing Center Street) to White Street

— right on White Street to Howe Avenue

— right on Howe Avenue to Bridge Street

— left on Bridge Street to Derby

 

Once crossing the Housatonic River, the parade will continue through downtown Derby and end at the Derby Public Library on Elizabeth Street.
