Spooner House gets nearly $10,000 thanks to Walk for the Hungry

The Spooner House walkers at the Derby Greenway earned more than $9,260 for hungry and homeless in their care. Nearly 100 people took part in the walk along the Naugatuck River this year while helping to raise money for the services provided by Area Congregations Together (ACT).

Spooner House officials thanked those who supported the 17th annual Walk for the Hungry and Homeless on May 17 including all the walkers and their supporters who combined raised $1,767 while the corporate sponsors contributed a total of $7,500, including some in kind support.

“We are especially appreciative to the Valley Parish Nurse program for providing family and child health and safety information,” said Susan Agamy, executive director at Spooner House. “A special thanks to the Valley nurses for also giving each of the children participating in the walk a reflective slap bracelet.”

About ACT

Non-profit Area Congregations Together, Inc. (ACT) was formed in 1979 to help fill gaps in the Naugatuck Valley’s social service network. Today, Spooner House is operated by ACT and is a facility that provides food, shelter and support services to approximately 200 men, women and children each year. More than 6,000 individuals have been served by the Food Bank this past year, comprising more than 130,000 meals.
