Bar 140 swept a Valley Independent Softball League doubleheader from Boland’s Cafe, but it took two different routes to achieve the dual win.
In the opener, Bar 140 used a six-run third inning to break away from an early 1-1 tie to register a 13-2 victory.
After the teams traded single runs early, Bar 140 busted loose in the third to establish a commanding 7-1 lead. Highlighting the uprising was a bases-loaded, bases-clearing double by Tom Ballaro.
With the score 8-2, Bar 140 put a wrap on the win with a five-run sixth. Ballaro again delivered the big hit, a two-run single.
Ballaro finished with three hits and six RBIs. Chris Chapman and Mike Davee contributed a pair of hits each.
Winning pitcher Mike Osiecki and his defense limited Boland’s to six hits including two by Sean Mayne.
The nightcap was a back-and-forth affair that saw Bar 140 eke out an 11-10 win.
Boland’s jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one and stayed on top until the bottom of the third, when Bar 140 plated four to go up 5-4.
The rest of the game was a back-and-forth affair that saw Bar 140 eventually emerge victorious, as it tallied a pair in the bottom of the sixth to go up by one before putting Boland’s down 1-2-3 in the top of the seventh.
Ryan Doughan, Steve Daddio, Davee, Brett and Chris Chapman each had two hits for the winners.
Nick Moore banged out three base hits to lead Boland’s, while Joe Peccerillo notched a pair.
Bricks & Barley improved its Division I leading ledger to 6-0 by toppling Pennsylvania Steel, 13-4 and 20-1.
Porky’s Cafe/Mutiny inflicted the first loss of the season on The Meeting Place Restaurant 13-2 in the opener of their doubleheader. Meeting Place rebounded to capture the nightcap, 10-5.
