Moose spotted near Route 8 in Thomaston

Motorists in the Thomaston area are advised to use extra caution and be observant while driving due to the sighting of a moose near Route 8.

Moose near roadways pose a particular danger because their dark color and tall stance make them difficult to see at night and, once struck, more likely to collapse through the vehicle windshield.

All moose and deer vehicle collisions should be reported to local, state, or DEEP Environmental Conservation Police Officers 860-424-3333. Additionally, residents throughout the state are encouraged to report moose sightings on the DEEP Web site at
