Powerful thunderstorms expected to roll through Shelton tonight

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect through 8:30 p.m. for Shelton and all of Fairfield and New Haven counties, with a line of powerful storms now entering the state from the west.

“National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing golf ball size hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph,” the NWS said in a statement at 7:42. “This storm was located near Danbury and moving northeast at 35 mph.”


‘A dangerous storm’

The NWS warned the storm could be dangerous.

“This is a dangerous storm,” the NWS said. “If you are in its path, prepare immediately for damaging winds, destructive hail and deadly cloud-to-ground lightning.

“People outside should move to a shelter, preferably inside a strong building but away from windows,” the NWS continued.
