Shelton fireworks entertain thousands on picture-perfect night

They brought blankets and lawn chairs, and picnic meals and liquid refreshments, to enjoy the show at Veterans Memorial Park (the Riverwalk). The Derby fireworks took place at the same time, just across the Housatonic River.

People were entertained first by the Glamour Girls, a band that specializes in retro rock, pop and soul music. Members of the Youth CONNection from Center Stage Theatre performed selections from their upcoming production of “Les Miserables” (July 25-Aug. 2).

Then, once dark enough at about 9:15, the fireworks began to explode in the sky above.

Julianne Marinelli of Shelton and Michael Lowery, who grew up in Shelton, had great seats on Howe Avenue, enabling them to clearly see both the Shelton and Derby fireworks displays.
