The concert by The Navels will take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9. It is free and open to the public. The shows last about two hours.

The Navels specialize in cover songs from the 1960s, ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s as well as current hits. This includes classic rock, disco, and Motown, such as ballads by The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac, Aretha Franklin, Sheryl Crow and The Go Go’s.

‘You’re in the band’

The band plays the type of music designed to encourage people to dance and sing along. “We encourage people to ‘join us’ on stage,” states The Navels website (thenavels.com).

“Whether it is singing background vocals, playing tambourine, banging on the congas, playing the guitar or drums….you’re in the band. It’s rock band, Guitar Hero and karaoke on steroids,” according to the website.

Concerts continue until late August

The Navels concert is part of the Music Under the Stars weekly series by the Shelton Parks and Recreation Department.

The free evenings of outdoor music take place every Wednesday in the summer from 7-9 p.m. at the Huntington Green, unless otherwise noted. Rain date is the following evening (in case of inclement weather, call the recorded cancellation line at 203-331-4120).
