The Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce has honored outgoing Housatonic Community College President Anita T. Gliniecki.
The chamber, which serves Shelton and nearby towns in the Valley, presented Gliniecki with the Leadership in Higher Education Award at its recent 50th annual meeting.
Bill Purcell, Greater Valley Chamber president, said Gliniecki was being recognized for her “distinguished service at Housatonic” and praised her “outstanding service and leadership.”
Gliniecki, who lives in Monroe, is retiring in August after serving since 2006 as president of Housatonic, a state-supported, two-year college in downtown Bridgeport.
Workplace and United Way honors, too
Gliniecki recently also received recognition for her community involvement from two other organizations.
At a recent board meeting of The Workplace, President and CEO Joseph Carbone praised Gliniecki for her years of service and her partnership in workforce development. She has served on the Workplace board of directors.
The United Way of Coastal Fairfield County presented Gliniecki with its August F. Serra Community Engagement Award. The award is for excellence in community engagement work. She has served on the local United Way board.
Involved with many organizations
Gliniecki’s involvement in the community also includes being president of the Bridgeport Rotary and chairman of the Bridgeport Higher Education Alliance, as well as serving on the boards of the Bridgeport YMCA, Bridgeport Public Education Fund, the Business Council of Fairfield County’s Education and Business Leaders, the International Women’s Forum, and the annual Juneteenth celebration.
In addition, she is a former member of the National Commission on Academic, Student, and Community Development of the American Association of Community Colleges.
