Elizabeth G. Roop has been appointed as interim president of Housatonic Community College (HCC) in Bridgeport, effective Sept. 1.
Roop is currently HCC’s academic dean, and will succeed retiring HCC President Anita Gliniecki. Roop will serve until a new president is appointed by the state Board of Regents for Higher Education.
She has served in her current position at HCC since 2007, and has 30 years of community college experience.
Works on HCC strategic planning
At HCC, Roop now supervises five academic departments and the staff in five programs, and serves as the administrative lead on the campus-wide Strategic Planning Committee. She also is a member of the Statewide Advanced Manufacturing Advisory Committee.
“My recent and past leadership experience has prepared me well for this interim role,” Roop said, “and my focus will be on quality student learning, student and employee engagement, stewardship of resources and community outreach.”
She previously worked at three community colleges in Massachusetts — Greenfield Community College, Massachusetts Bay Community College, and Middlesex Community College.
