American Legion: Post 16 locked in playoff battle

The Shelton Post 16 American Legion baseball team split a doubleheader yesterday at Shelton High, shutting out Milford Post 196 and falling to Branford.

At 14-14 overall, Shelton is tied with New Haven for the final playoff spot in Zone II, with New Haven (13-13) holding two games in hand. Shelton travels to DeMayo Field in North Haven to take on New Haven tonight at 7. Shelton closes out the regular season on Saturday morning with a showdown with Branford at 9:30 a.m. at Branford High.

In the 3-0 victory over Milford (14-16), right-hander Hudson Boles outdueled Post 196’s Ian Zona, with Boles throwing a complete-game shutout.

Zone leaders Branford (28-1) won the nightcap, 3-2, scoring three times in the fifth inning. Post 16 pulled back a run in the bottom of the seventh, but Sean Halligan came on to secure the save.
